Adorable 4-year-old girl sat next to me on the tube, one of those new Hammersmith & City line ones that's basically one long carriage. Her mother is on the other side of her with the pram. It's midday, mild, sunny and pretty quiet.
The kid is sitting a bit restlessly, talking in that incomprehensible but adorable way that some kids do.
She's looking back and forth at me and then my iPad, her face is about 6 inches away.
I smile at her because, you know, you've got to encourage social interaction and show that people are nice. Only a complete prick would ignore her.
But I did wonder. Should I let her know about the "no talking on the tube" rule or should I leave that to her mother?
You'll be happy to know the irony of doing such a thing did not escape me. One day she will learn the way of the tube.
